The high-performance press has replaced one of the company’s two Domino N610i digital label presses, enabling Crown Labels to respond to growing customer demand, enhancing production output and opening the doors to premium label opportunities.
“When we saw the quality of the N730i, the higher resolution, and the faster speeds, it was a complete no-brainer for us,” says Tom Hardy, Director, Crown Labels. “The gradations are beautifully printed, the text reversals are finer, and everything we have seen from the new machine has been superb. It takes us to the next level and boosts our production capacity.”
The N730i has allowed Crown Labels to increase production speeds to 90m/min in high-speed productivity mode, with a higher print resolution of up to 1200dpi. In addition, the extended colour gamut of the 7-colour N730i, featuring orange and violet inks, has allowed Crown Labels to transfer even more jobs from flexographic printing to digital.
“For many applications, we have found digital production to be more competitive than flexo. We have significantly improved lead times, and we can begin production almost immediately without the lengthy make-ready processes associated with traditional printing methods,” explains Tom Hardy.
Crown Labels bought its first Domino press in 2019, in response to requests for shorter lead times, more SKUs, and frequent artwork changes. The company selected a Domino N610i based on the press’s speed, high print quality, and competitive consumable costs.
Satisfied with the N610i’s performance and the reliable support received from Domino, Crown Labels invested in a second N610i in 2022, and more recently decided to upgrade their capabilities and boost capacity further by replacing one of the presses with a high-performance Domino N730i.
Digital print now accounts for more than 65% of the company’s turnover, a significant increase from around 20% in 2019. Domino was a key partner supporting this growth.
“We’d highly recommend Domino to any label printer. The service levels and response times that we get from Domino have been superb from day one. Whether that’s the sales support that we’ve had when we were investigating new machines or the actual service engineers themselves, they’ve been a pleasure to deal with,” says Tom Hardy.
Craig Clawson, UK Sales Manager at Domino Printing Sciences, says: “Crown Labels are more than just our customers – they are our long-term partners. It’s been very rewarding to support them on their digital journey – first with the N610i and now, to see how the N730i is helping them to take quality and capacity to the next level. We look forward to supporting Crown Labels for many years to come.”
